Slang for food
Avoir la dalle – to be starving
J’ai la dalle et je ne sais pas quoi faire à manger. I’m starving and I don’t know what to make to eat.
Avoir la gueule de bois – to have a hangover
J’ai la gueule de bois, j’ai trop bu hier = I have a hangover and i drank too much
Avoir les crocs – to be very hungry
J’ai les crocs ce midi – I am very hungry this lunchtime
Avoir un petit creux – to be a little hungry
J’ai un petit creux – I am little hungry
Berk ! – Yuck!.
Ce n’est pas appétissant, berk !
Boire un coup / un pot – to have a drink.
On se boit un coup – Let’s have a drink
Bouffe – food
Bouffer – to eat
ça fouette – that stinks (said of cheese)
Ce fromage fouette – this cheese stinks
Casser la croûte – to have a snack
Je casse la croûte – I’m going to eat
Dégueulasse – disgusting
Ce plat est dégueulasse – this meal is disgusting
Gavé – stuffed
Je suis gavé – I ate too much
It can be used for food but to mean that you are bored with a person or a situation
Tu me gaves – you make me angry
Se goinfrer / s’empiffrer – to stuff yourself / to pig out
Je me goinfre de bonbons – I stuff myself with candies
People
Frangin – brother – Mon frangin adore le sport – My brother like sports
Frangine – sister – Ma frangine cuisine bien – My sister cooks well
Meuf – girl – Cette meuf est malhonnete – this girl is dishonest
Mec – guy – Ce mec est mignon – this guy is handsome
Gosse – kid – ce gosse me rend folle – this kid is driving me crazy

Carrément – totally, downright –

Ça roule? = It’s rolling?
Instead of saying comment ça va? you can say ça roule?
Laisse tomber = let it go, drop it
Laisse tomber, arrête d’être en colère, tu trouveras un autre job – Forget it, stop being angry, you’ll find another job
J’ai la flemme – I’m lazy – J’ai la flemme de faire la vaisselle – I’m too lazy to do the dishes
Vas-y mollo – take it easy
Ça craint – it sucks –
Adrian says : Il est licencié – He is dismissed
Louise answers : ça craint
C’est clair – means approve what your interlocutor says
Adrian says : ce gâteau au chocolat est délicieux – this chocolate cake is delicious
Louise answers : c’est clair
Objects
Godasse – Chaussures – shoes – Je cherche mes godasses – I’m searching my shoes
Pompes – Chaussures – shoes – As-tu vu mes pompes – have you seen my shoes?
Boîte – a company – Je retourne a la boite – I’m going back to the company.
Caisse, bagnole – the car – j’ai pris la bagnole – I took the car
Now let’s work on a sentence:
Je cherche mes godasses pour aller a la boite. Je n’ai pas kiffé ce moment-là. J’ai mis 15 min à les trouver.
Ensuite, j’ai pris la bagnole et un gosse a traversé la route, j’ai failli le renversé. Ça m’a gavé.
Apres, j’avais un petit creux, alors, j’ai acheté un gâteau à la boulangerie et bu un coup. Enfin, je suis arrivé a la boite pour travailler.
Translation:
I was looking for my shoes to go to the office. I didn’t relish that moment. It took me 15 minutes to find them.
Then I got in the car and a kid crossed the road and I nearly ran him over. I was really fed up.
Then I felt a bit peckish, so I bought a cake from the bakery and had a drink. Finally, I got to work.
